10D WONDERS OF EGYPT - Chan Brother Travel
1 May to 10 Maay 2008


Itinerary:

Day 1 SINGAPORE – LUXOR (Meals on Board/Dinner)
Assemble at Singapore Changi Airport for your flight to Luxor. Upon arrival, proceed to enjoy your River Nile cruise.


Day 2 LUXOR – EDFU (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
This morning, visit the Temple of Luxor, built during Amenhotep II’s reign with 6 looming statues of Pharaoh Rameses II at the entrance.

Then proceed to Karnak Temple, which is dedicated to the god Amon and his family, and be overwhelmed by its architectural intricacy and proportions.

Continue your journey to the Valley of the Kings, located on the west bank and nestled amidst desert mountains, to visit the tombs of the kings. Pass the Colossi of Memnon to view the 2 seated figures of Amenhotep III.

Next, visit the amazing Temple of Queen Hatshepsut built in 3 broad columned terraces against the backdrop of cliffs. Thereafter, embark on your cruise and sail southwards to Edfu.


Day 3 EDFU – KOM OMBO – ASWAN (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Continue to enjoy your cruise to Edfu. On the way, enjoy the beautiful scenes of an ancient village where time has stood still on the banks of the Nile.

After passing through the locks at Esna, arrive in Edfu and transfer by kalesh, an Egyptian horse-drawn carriage to the Temple of Horus which is dedicated to the Falcon God. One of Egypt’s remaining great monuments, this temple took over 200 years to be built.

Continue sailing southwards to Kom Ombo to visit the Ptolemaic Temple which is shared by two gods, Sobek and Horus. Tonight, enjoy Egyptian cuisine and a galabia-themed party onboard the cruise.


Day 4 ASWAN (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Aswan is one of the world’s best-known winter resorts. Visit the ancient granite quarries and the enormous Unfinished Obelisk which lies attached to a great granite mass.

View the Old Dam and the High Dam which provide irrigation and electricity to the whole of Egypt.

Take a boat ride to the beautiful Temple of Philae, which rises from the waters of the Nile on the Island of Isis. Sail around the Elephantine Islands in a traditional felucca and view the Aga Khan Mausoleum on the west bank of the Nile.


Day 5 ASWAN – ABU SIMBEL – ASWAN – CAIRO (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Take an excursion to the magnificent Sun Temple of Abu Simbel. Flanked by 4 giant stone statues of Rameses II, the temple was reclaimed from the dam and reconstructed at its present location.

Thereafter, transfer to Cairo with overnight train.


Day 6 CAIRO (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Visit the ancient capital of Memphis, where the colossal statue of Rameses II and a great alabaster sphinx stand.

Proceed to Sakkara, the step pyramid built for Pharaoh Zoser and the oldest limestone structure in the world.

Visit Pyramids of Giza, the oldest and only site in existence amongst the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. Marvel at the largest pyramid, the Great Pyramid of Cheops and the Pyramids of Chephren and Mycerinus. The 3 pyramids represent the link between heaven and earth and were directed at Horus, who was the ancient Egyptian god of the World.

Just down the escarpment from the pyramids, you will come face to face with the Sphinx. Conclude your visit to the pyramids with a fun camel ride

Then transfer to visit Khan Al Khalili, the largest bazaar in the Middle East with more than 4,000 stalls. You can shop for excellent handicrafts and even try Egyptian coffee and shisha, a traditional flavoured tobacco at your own expense.


Day 7 CAIRO – ALEXANDRIA – CAIRO (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Drive north to Alexandria, ‘Pearl of the Mediterranean’. Strategically located by the Mediterranean Sea, it is the largest port in Egypt and the greatest summer resort in the Middle East.

Upon arrival, proceed to sightsee places of interest like Morsi Abu Abas Mosque, Roman Amphitheatre, Catacombs, Pompey’s Pillars, King Faruk’s Palace, Abu Darda Mosque, Maqam Nabi Daniel and Maqam Lokman Al Hakim. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the shore of the Eastern Harbour that overlooks the Mediterranean. On your way back to Cairo, pass by Qait Bay’s Fort which was built in the 14th century. Stay overnight in Cairo.


Day 8 CAIRO (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Visit the Citadel of Salah Eldin and Alabaster Mosque of Mohammed Ali. Then, view the mummies of King Tutankhamon and other famous pharaohs, as well as treasures of ancient Egypt civilizationsduring your guided tour at the Egyptian Museum.


Day 9 CAIRO – SINGAPORE (Breakfast/Meals on Board)
If time permits, you can do some last-minute shopping before you transfer to the airport for your flight home.


Day 10 ARRIVE IN SINGAPORE
